Garden furniture storage and BBQ storage – another string to the Edinburgh Self Storage bow. Perhaps you’re new to this self storage lark? Maybe you just got a garden? Or perhaps you’ve used other self storage facilities in the past that weren’t much cop?
Time to try Edinburgh Self Storage.
The unseasonably warm weather may have given your garden or patio furniture and BBQ a stay of execution thanks to an extra burst of summer, but those days are numbered and that’s why you need a self-storage facility you can trust.
Just think about how much space you’ll have freed up once you start planning to remove all that furniture and gardening equipment and BBQ, and it all begins with a little preparation…
Garden furniture storage and preparation
It’s not just your garden furniture that you must clean before placing it in a self-storage unit, it’s your lawnmower, hedge trimmer, BBQ etc. It’s always a good idea to Google how to do it or consult the manufacturer’s instructions. For example, a general rule of thumb is that wicker furniture can be cleaned using a garden hose but not a pressure washer. Soapy water will do the trick, ditto for aluminium garden furniture.
Wooden furniture tends to breed lichen and fungal spores, so before storing your wooden garden furniture, it’s a good idea to give it a good scrub with a sturdy brush and hot, soapy water. Allow it to dry properly and oil before storing.
Synthetic rattan is hardier and is designed to weather the winter months, but when it’s not being used, it’s still much better for it to store it indoors.
Storing your BBQ with Edinburgh Self Storage
Our clean, dry self-storage units are ideal for storing your BBQ minus the gas cylinders of course, while you’re not using it, so by the time next summer arrives, it will be ready for bangers, corn-on-the-cob – all manner of what have you! Then you won’t be tripping over it in the garage throughout the winter, or wherever else you would’ve stored it were it not for Edinburgh Self Storage.
Preparing your BBQ for self-storage
When preparing your BBQ for personal self-storage, it’s particularly important that you check the manufacturer’s cleaning guide.
The following steps are a recommendation only:
First up, disconnect the gas supply or remove the gas bottle, then lift the BBQ hood and remove all the plates, grills and trays (including the drip tray), and the burners if you can.
Then take a scraper and get to work on any burnt-on food, grease or rust from the plates, grills and trays, followed by a good wash of the plates, grills and trays with, yes you guessed it, warm soapy water. You might also wash them in a water/vinegar solution to help protect the components.
Please make sure that the burners and unclog any grease from them. Wash with warm soapy water and reassemble.
Place everything back in the BBQ (apart from the gas bottles or gas connection of course), and if you have a cover for your BBQ, put it on to protect it from dust during its autumn/ winter stay with Edinburgh Self Storage.
