Selling Up or Moving On? We Can Help!

Updated May 2019

The start of the summer is one of the most popular times of year for people to put their house or flat on the market. Lots of people are on the look-out for their next dream property before the start of the next school or university term.

Photos for the viewing schedule look better in the sunshine and gardens and window boxes are full of life, not to mention the good mood the sunny weather puts everyone in.

If you’re selling up this summer, it’s a great opportunity to have a clear out and give everything a fresh lick of paint. It’s a great way to make your home clean and clutter free so that viewers can imagine their own furniture, ornaments and colour schemes.

As well as having that all important clear out, there will undoubtedly be things that are special to you but might prevent viewers from seeing your home at its best.

First Impressions Count

We heard of one viewer that couldn’t get through the hallway without stepping on motorbike parts but that’s an extreme example! We’re thinking of the well-worn chair that’s seen better days or the coffee table you have to walk round to get from one room to the other.

It’s easy to stop noticing what’s immediately around us but when you’re trying to sell your home, you have to see it through your viewers’ eyes. Sometimes a clear-headed friend is just what you need to point out the things that could stop someone imagining their own favourite picture above the fireplace. First impressions count and it could be the difference between a quick sale at the price you want and being under pressure to accept an offer that’s not what you’re looking for.

Different Storage Options

We can help look after anything that might get in the way until you’ve got that all important sale. We’ll keep things for as long as you like until you’re ready to move into the next home of your dreams.

We have units of all sizes from the size of a locker upwards and everything is safe and secure with the most up-to-date digital security. The team here at Edinburgh Self Storage knows that selling up and moving house can be one of the most stressful things you do. We’ll do everything we can to help you work out exactly what you need and make everything simple and straightforward.

Jenners Department Store Turns 180 Years Old

One of the many things that makes Edinburgh Self Storage stand out is the iconic building we’re based in.

It’s long been a landmark in the west of Edinburgh, from train passengers knowing when to get off at Haymarket station, to rugby supporters heading to Murrayfield. We’re proud of our beautiful listed building and we’ve been looking into some of the Jenners history.

How Jenners Department Store Began

The Jenners department store on Princes Street was opened 180 years ago by two men by the name of Charles Kennington and Charles Jenner. They’d been sacked from their previous jobs for sneaking off to Musselburgh Races instead of turning up for work! Luckily their horses came in that day and they put their winnings into starting their own drapers. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Jenners Depository – Home of Edinburgh Self Storage

The Jenners Depository building that we occupy was built in 1925 and had a lodge and stables, as well as the depository itself. It was designed so that horses and carts could be moved around easily. Nowadays, it’s you and your belongings that can get around without any trouble.

There’s free parking onsite and depending on the location of your unit, you may be able to drive right up to its door. If your unit is inside the self storage buildings then there are plenty of trolleys and a large lift to make easy. You can access your unit as little or as often as you want, during our opening hours, which are: 8am-6pm Mondays to Fridays, 9am-4pm on Saturdays and 11am-3pm on Sundays.

It might be an old building but it’s full of the most up-to-date digital security to keep everything safe. We’ve kept many of its original features so it’s just as recognisable as it was almost 100 years ago but the inside has been modernised to include 25 different types of storage unit from a locker to 150 ft2.
