Edinburgh Festival
As we leave Spring behind, folk in Edinburgh are starting to think about festivals. Not just one festival but a whole load one after the other all through the Summer months. It’s not called The Festival City for nothing.
Apparently, all of the festivals combined attract audiences of over 4.5 million people. That puts it on a par with the FIFA World Cup!
Edinburgh is THE place to be from June to August and we’ve been taking a look at what’s coming up and what we’re most excited about seeing here at Edinburgh Self Storage.
A Whole Summer of Events
It all kicks off on 20th June with Edinburgh International Film Festival. We’ve spotted Incredibles 2 on the programme so we’re planning to get booked up for that with the family. You’ve then got Jazz and Blues, the Art Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, the Tattoo and the Fringe.
Sunny evenings can be spent up at the Spiegeltent taking in the atmosphere during the Jazz and Blues Festival. We’ve spotted an exhibition of beautiful Liberty fabrics we don’t want to miss during the Art Festival. And Nicola Benedetti will be paying Edinburgh a visit during the International Festival. There’s so much on during the Fringe that we’ll have no shortage of things to do in August.
It all finishes up on 27th August with the spectacular fireworks display from Edinburgh Castle, accompanied by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Last year a quarter of a million people oohed and aahed at the amazing pyrotechnics!
Welcome Visitors
And there’s nothing makes us Edinburghers prouder than seeing (and hearing) the visitors from around the world enjoying our beautiful city.
It’s also no coincidence that lots of us hear from friends and family that have been quiet since Hogmanay! They suddenly decide that it’s time they paid us another visit. Oh, and look they can go and see a few shows while they’re here!
You can take them out for a bit of star spotting (our top tips are The Pleasance and The Royal Mile for seeing celebrity A-listers and TV comedians).
Of course, we love to see them but it can make space a bit tight at home. The sofa bed comes out, the washing machine is on 24/7. Not to mention the strict bathroom rota!
