Summer Holidays
How often have you been asked recently where you’re going on your holidays? Us too. It’s got us daydreaming about all the ways to spend our precious time off.
Some of us fly off to sunny climes for sun, sea and surf. Others nip off for a city break taking in a weekend of sightseeing and culture.
This year we’re thinking about having a staycation. After all, Edinburgh is one of the top tourist spots in the country with over 1.6 million overseas visitors a year alone. Why not be a tourist in our own city?
Wherever you live, there are always places you’ve been meaning to visit. All those buildings you notice when you’re on the way to work and famous sons and daughters you’ve always meant to find out more about.
A staycation is a great way to get to know what’s on your doorstep. And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune either.
Tourist for the Day
Get yourself a day ticket on the bus and hop on and off as often as you like. See where the wind takes you and just take it as it comes.
For those that like to plan their days a bit more, you can find all the free things to visit where you live. There are the obvious ones like museums and galleries. But what about a bit of family research in the library or a walk around your nearest park or woodland?
If you have kids to keep entertained, why not let them plan a day? You could end up in places you’d never thought of and, who knows, you might just enjoy it!
After a day in the city, why not venture out in the country for some camping, biking or hiking? You can always store your bulkier equipment with us when you’re not using it. It’ll be safe and secure and you’ll have access to it whenever you like.
Treat Yourself
One of the most important things is to remember to treat it like a proper holiday. Ignore the hoovering and laundry and just relax at the end of the day. Cook your favourite meal, have a BBQ or enjoy a film with the family. Don’t forget to take some photos, too, and print out one or two as reminders of when you got to know your city just that little bit better.
