Baby-Proof Your Home by Using Self Storage

Picture the scene: you have a new born baby, it’s your first child, and you’re not really sure of what you’re doing: everything is new.   Getting stressed-out about how to change a nappy, how to stop the baby crying, getting up at all hours to comfort them, trying to figure out if they are hungry or if it’s time for a nappy change?  To say the situation is “daunting” would be the understatement of the century.

As time goes on things get easier; everyday your newborn is developing, growing and changing.  All the tiny baby clothes you received from friends and family as gifts, no longer fit as your baby is growing so fast.  They’ll be moving out in no time: well, not quite but they are getting bigger very quickly.  As time moves on, the cot is no longer needed and the pram and mosses basket are now redundant.  All the toys and walkers are shoved in the corner and soon, there is no use for the highchair anymore.

Although it’s a bit of a sweeping generalisation, families expand: the high-chair, cot, baby-walker and pram can all be used again if another child comes along, but what happens to them in the mean time?  Baby items can often cost a significant amount of money and if plans are to have more than one child it wouldn’t be out of place to term them as “an investment.”  The storage of these items within the home becomes a headache for any new parent trying to baby-proof the home environment.

Although not necessarily an immediately obvious solution, self storage is ideal for this type of situation.  Renting a small storage room from your local self storage operator serves several purposes.  Firstly, everything you don’t have a current use for, but know you will need in the future is kept out of the way: no more trip hazards in the shape of a pull along toy.  Everything put into your storage room will remain clean and dry: the worry about items becoming damp is removed from any thought process.  The storage room can also be used to keep anything a small person could injure themselves on, or cause damage to, out of reach.

Once the initial shock of becoming a parent for the first time has eased, and you think you are brave enough to cope with another child, the items can then be retrieved from the storage room in preparation for the arrival of baby number two.
